Downtown Madison Inc (DMI) is a not-for-profit advocacy organization dedicated to fostering a healthy, thriving, and vibrant downtown Madison, WI. For over 40 years, DMI has represented the interests of its 570+ members, including businesses, residents, and employees, ensuring the urban core remains an exceptional place to live, work, play, and visit. Its mission is to make Downtown Madison economically strong, inclusive, equitable, and vibrant for all.
DMI has been instrumental in the revitalization and ongoing development of downtown Madison. Key achievements include advocating for iconic projects like the Monona Terrace and Overture Center, establishing the Central Business Improvement District, and initiating popular community events such as the Dane County Farmers’ Market, Paddle & Portage, and Frostiball. The organization actively engages in research, planning, and community action through various committees focused on economic development, government relations, inclusivity, quality of life, and transportation.
